Struck down by a debilitating event that left me helpless physically and drained mentally. Totally shattered.

This wasn't the first time my body slapped me hard like this. A series of heart attacks, major nerve damage and my original stroke had already taken their toll. Each time I was knocked down, though, I instantly fought to get back up. This time I just stayed down. After awhile something just snaps. What's the point becomes your mantra. Rather than struggling upwards you begin to crave further depths and even thoughts of nonexistence nag at you.

This is very hard to admit. Pangs of guilt and selfishness at loved ones bereaved keep such thoughts as just that merely thoughts. During hot tear moments, however, internal shouts of coward and burden can almost turn such thoughts into action. Almost. Fortunately I have external shields.

My wife and children are amazing. Stepping up, going without, and being the strength I lack on so many occasions. Literally keeping me alive. Unconditional love made flesh. It therefore makes me feel pretty shitty to say that this can be a double edged sword. Remember the shouts of burden above? They get so much louder as you see loved ones sacrifice so much. A whole mess of emotions kick in which even now remain tangled. So I kept looking down. Ashamed but still ever down. Up stepped the pixels.

For various reasons I have no "real life" friends close by. I use the quotes because part of me finds that term and it's connotations that an opposite and perhaps lesser type of friend exists offensive. The people I grew up with, met on my travels and worked with are now seen through the lens of my computer screen. Along with them are a large group I haven't (in the main) physically met. The majority of these have entered my life because of a shared love for the MMO World of Warcraft. (For those of you accidently here you now know why this blog is called Ten Gnomes and not Fat Bloke Whining). These pixels helped save my life.

Early on following my collapse it became clear that in amongst all the medical mess financial mess stalked. Despite the wonders of our health service effective recovery was going to cost more than we could afford. I asked for help and it came. In cash donations and the spreading of my need it came. The financial goal was quickly reached a true crisis was averted. I still looked down.

I suspect that some of you reading this are toying with the words "selfish prick" right about now. All these people step up show me love and concern and I can't make the effort to get of the mat? Couldn't agree more. The real sense of elation was once again tainted by feelings of failure and being a burden.

In countless online interactions I was told how silly such thoughts were. The love shown came with no cost. To think otherwise was just silly. Despite a small part of me knowing this to be true...down.

So recovery begins but there is little desire to recover so I don't. My internal jukebox is still playing the 12" disco remix of "Why Bother" and months pass. If I'd written this a week ago this would be where I still stood (or rather laid).

Last few days though there's been a distinct adjustment. Partly this was due to the joy I had at a surprise trip to see the Warcraft movie. A logistical masterpiece pulled off by my amazing wife in total secrecy. Her joy at my joy knocked the foolish thoughts of burden out of my head. The happiness at my happiness shown by my kids also gave it a solid kicking. Then those amazing pixels iced the cake.

The reaction of those I told this news to online was like a flood of light. A torrent of genuine joy and happiness for me. A spot of ventrillo with some true diamonds downunder added another layer of gold. The realisation hit hard that I love these people and that behind the pixels are folks I want to be engaged with for as much time as I can. Looking down would stop that from happening. So now I'm looking up.
Going through one of those phases where I want to connect and looking forward the best place to do so. This would certainly be perfect for WoW musings.
Somewhat foolishly I decided to go with Worgens. Talk about your big old bags of levelling suck!
Need less to say I had a hideous time which I shall expand upon in WoWGeekly episode 7.

Now I need to go and edit episode 6. Though I better have a lay down first. Should never edit angry!
Kicking off a mini project with a fine group of Aussies and figured I would do some multi boxing.
I've created 5 warlocks but 2 of them are still irradiated back in Gnomeregan.
Anyhoo say hi to the ladies. Cute but deadly!
At least it is hard to work out when one day starts and the other begins.

Being a man of extreme leisure I have few set daily milestones. I eat when hungry sleep when tired and use the facilities when nature forces me. Basically I am a very large cat! Apart from medical appointments and the occasional recording there are very few alarm clocks in my life. All of this is further mixed up because I live in GMT and my online world lives in EST (-5 hours). So you can see my confusion :)

I am sure some, if not all of you, are reading the above and forming the words 'lucky bastard' or similar in your minds. Quite rightly so! If it weren't for the constant pain and a body which seems determined to have me hovering between grapes and flowers permanently it would indeed be bliss.

All that preamble was meant to explain why my leveling sessions are becoming more nocturnal. I should also say that the days of me being able to play straight for 12+ hours are long gone. I am now playing in 2-3 hour bursts and sleeping for 8 which also adds to my temporal confusion.

Anyhow I am sure you didn't come here to read all the above bollocks but to find out where the ladies are at.

Last session took place while the good folks of CoD (Clan of Darkness Guild) were planning and executing their famed friday night run. I had the distinct pleasure of once again being able to hop on the mumble server and hear some of the excitement.

The bulk of leveling took place in Burning Steppes which although not perfect desert is pretty close.

"10,000 bloodthirsty enemy and all we have are party masks!? Yeah this should go well!"

No real details to report as it was pretty much a blur of dieing ogres, orcs and trolls (with a few golems and dwarves thrown in).

At 4am I threw in the towel and the ladies went to their digital beds having hit 56.

5 hours later I am back writing this and trying to wake my brain up for the Ctrl Alt WoW record in 2 hours. Should be fun.

Bye for now.

Once again fought the urge to boost the ladies and spent the session with some more fun questing.

Plenty left to do in Dustwallow. It really is a pretty good zone for levelling. Lots of nice quick quests (higher drop rates across the board helps) and plenty to kill along the way.

I did get a bit close to some Alliance camps which ended in quick painful deaths and 5 minutes of flagged fear. Apart from that, though, it was all plain sailing.

"I've had a few drinks and I'm carrying a dagger so go ahead and call be babe again!"

Left a bit of XP on the table as many quests started graying out (next team to this area will go out there sooner). Next up was Tanaris.

Have to say I have a deep joy for deserts (and indeed desserts). The far vistas and lack of trees and obstacles to get my team tangled on is a real boon.

After butchering most of the indigenous life, killing several bubble farting giants and uncovering some suspicious activity the girls hit 50.

This guy just let off a WMD gas bubble - Ughh!

Not sure I will hit 60 before the CAW record but there is no rush right!?

Another joy of this sessions levelling was getting to talk to some of the excellent CAWlings and CODlings on the new mumble server. Didn't do a lot of talking as I was in the 'zone' but it was nice to have them there. Look forward to doing that more.

Bye for now :)

First thing that caused me pain was the change back to having to learn flight paths again! Not 100% sure why Blizzard did this but sheesh. So it was time to hop on a mount and do some riding. At that point I realised I hadn't actually learned riding. Poop. Soon remedied though.

One of the joys of account bound mounts is never having to ride a battle chicken again!

Next pain in the backside was CRZ. How many times did I lose follow? Count the dents in my head caused by me slamming my head into the keyboard! So frustrating.

My destination for levelling was Southern Barrens / Dustwallow Marsh. All in all it was a pretty straight forward thing. Lots of nice kill quests and pretty much all the collection quests gave to both toons.

"We're gonna need a bigger rolled up newspaper!"

My only real visit from Captain Cockup was when Lara opened a treasure chest and earnt 16000xp. This caused (at least to me) an unacceptable gulf between the levels. Some tinkering about though got them back on par. This included a wee bit of pet battling. By the way if (like me) you were hoping the triple XP from RAF included Pet Battles it sadly does not :(

Managed to ding 40 in Dustwallow Marsh and then shortly after that 41. Probably would have been faster boosting through dungeons but actually apart from some niggles it was much more fun - and that is why we play right.

My audio of choice during this session was episodes 39 and 40 of the most excellent Bitter and Salty podcast. Looking forward to more next time.

Bye for now and love to you and yours :)

I have run this set of dungeons a gazillion times in the past and I was pleasantly surprised to see they had changed so much.

At level 21 I was too low for the Cathedral but was allowed access to The Scarlet Halls.

Some nice mechanics led to some cool surprises and I am ashamed to say 2 dead mages. Thank goodness for the guild perk 'Oops everyone died - be alive again'

Not sure how but earned 'Scarlet Halls Guild Run' for Clan of Darkness - wooot!

Two runs of the halls got the ladies to 23 so popped into The Cathedral and one run got the team to 25. Sadly this was still too low to get the quests from either wing (Halls 26 - Cathedral 28)

"No worries ladies you loot the corpses I'll grab the gold"

Two more runs through the halls (each run takes about 10 minutes) plus the quests dinged them well into 28 (each quest was netting them 22000+ XP which is about a level!).

So back to the Cathedral.

"Oy Vey! Forget the rain get this damn sword away from my twig and berries!"

Ended up doing two runs as I missed one of the quest parts but it was all good.

We leave the place behind with the death screams of many a crusader ringing in our ears and the ladies at level 33.

Time for a break. Be back soon.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-36026167565013520072013-08-07T09:15:00.000+01:002013-08-07T17:23:47.198+01:00RAF 2013 - Day 3/90 - Dungeons for DummiesSo the first real days levelling session finished with a bit of serious cheating!

"Hello Ladies! Welcome to the gun show ... no really I have an actual gun!"

Out came Wight the booster for some dungeon fun. I guess I could have done LFG but multiboxers are not given the respect they are so obviously due! Also if I want to get yelled at for not doing it right and for being a noob that is what I have a wife for :)

Going in at 13 I did three runs through Ragefire Chasm (which by the way is below Orgrimmar - who knew!) and grabbed the quests at 15. Hit 19 on the last run.

Next destination was Deadmines. (Oh for a three seated flying mount!) Zeppelined the team over to Stranglethorn then flew one over to DM and summoned her mate to meet us. This of course got their XP out of synch due to discoveries grrrrrrr. (OK no three seater flyer how about giving back Have Group Will Travel?)

One quick run through there and the ladies hit 21.

A fine end to the first day.

And now back to the duvet cave - night folks!
Ok so I am back blogging (at least for now)

And as you can see I am back levelling because the fact is I love it! Though not slowly so, of course, I am using every crutch available to me. RAF and Heirlooms will be fully utilised :)

First team out of the box are a couple of blood elf mages (pictured above in all their glory)

Larakai and Zarakai (naming toons is possibly the hardest damn thing!)

Technically it is day 3 of the RAF because I created the accounts on Sunday but there was an issue upgrading them from the trials so today is the first day of playing.

20:30 - First things first a quick run around Sunstrider Isle.

21:42 - Level 10

Have decided to go frost spec as I love to have my watery companion.

22:00 - Nice to see that some of the hideous collection quests are alive and well!

http://www.wowhead.com/quest=8884 Fish Heads, Fish Heads (all of those freaking murlocs have heads why does it take soooooo long)

and talking of heads...

We are here for yours Prospector!

22:15 - and as one toon hits 13 the other stubbornly refuses to do likewise. It is the dreaded if it is gray to one it is gray to both! Damn I hate not dinging together it feels wrong. Oh well this time around I can add some XP to one toon via pet battles. Will try and tidy it up as I go along.

22:30 - Time for a nice cuppa tea and a biscuit or three :)

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-59076811477323502402012-09-25T19:40:00.000+01:002012-09-25T19:47:05.396+01:00Panda Land Diary - Day 1What a truly magnificent experience this mornings launch of Mists of Pandaria was for me.

When I read about the no log out insta-launch Blizzard had planned I have to admit to being sceptical. This was further fuelled when problems with the launch (9 hours earlier) were reported from the EU.

I can tell you, however, my experience was as smooth as ice.

MoP 'switched' a few minutes earlier than expected (about 5) and this appeared to throw a good chunk of the masses who for some reason were glued to the command board in Orgrimmar (the initial quest automagically appeared in the quest log).

Having decided to take my hunter / gatherer team to 90 first I was hanging out at the skinning trainer on one and the mining trainer on the other. Clickty click quick flight to herbalist trainer and the engineering dude and I was ready to go.

The rest of my brief time in the city is a bit of a blur. I remember a cut scene several thousand heaving virtual bodies reaching out for a big yellow ? ..... then the team are on a zeppelin heading for Pandaria.

At this stage the awesome ratcheted up several levels. I actually tried to record some audio but soon realised it would be several minutes of me yelling in strangled breathy tones 'OMG OMG WHEEEEEE!!'

I had made a point of staying away from the beta for MoP and watching very few videos (all of which were of the panda race starting zones) I am so glad I did. The sheer epicness of it all is something I have rarely experienced in a video game. The hundreds of fellow players made it even more so. For me at least there was also pretty much zero lag which I found simply stunning.

I played for just over 4 hours and apart from a couple of choke points and insane respawn rates all continued to be over and above my already high expectations. I logged out about half way through level 85 a happy man.

So far so fantastic.

You may have been aware of the event :)

Poised over my keyboard and mouse my characters loitering near their profession trainers I certainly was.

Finally after what seemed forever Mists of Pandaria was here! And it was good!

I am going to take what seems the perfect opportunity to reboot this blog and use it to record the coming weeks and months in my favourite game. I am sticking with the title as although I no longer have my All Female Gnome Dancing Squad 'Ten Pandas' sounds stupid.

I also want to do a sort of audio diary rough podcasty thing so if you are more about the listening than the reading watch this space or better still follow me on twitter @eljeppyAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-12474786392387032072012-03-07T22:34:00.000+00:002012-03-07T22:34:53.833+00:00So good it seems wrong!

About 20 minutes ago this poor warlock was in whites and greens on a long forgotten account dreaming of what could have been. Scroll of Resurrection saved her!

With a few clicks of the mouse she transformed into a level 80 geared with good cataclysm starting gear 4 x frostweave bags 75 extra gold and a smile on her face. Even more exhilarating was the discovery that she now had 280 flying (including cold weather and Old World) as well as the mount to use it. Her specification had been filled in (you choose which one - I went for demonology) and all spells up to 80 are bought and paid for.

And there's more...

If she had been languishing on another realm or even slumming it with another faction another click would have transferred her lickty spit to the home of the resurrectionist. Not to mention if the account she was on had not been a cataclysm account that would have been sorted as well (even all the way from battle chest)

The cost of this wonder?

ZERO! Yes you heard me. No money down nothing to pay!

Oh yes she even got 7 days to bask in this new found glory.

I am constantly impressed by the lengths Blizzard go to in adding fun to the game. I guess some may see it as fluff and some others a waste of development time. Not me. I love it.

This piece of fun is particularly appealing to me as it involves the great Mr. T. Ever since I saw him beat the snot out of Rocky many years ago I have been a huge fan of his work. So what if he was afraid to fly (as exposed in the A team) anyone with that much bling before we all knew what bling was deserved my attention. Currently he graces our screens here in the UK as the face of Snickers. The tag line of which is the laugh out loud 'GET SOME NUTS'. In my opinion he can be the face of WoW from now on (suck it Shatner!)

I have already grabbed a set of Mohawk Grenades from a dodgy looking night elf outside Northshire and as you can see from the picture below deployed them with wild abandon.

I hope this is the start of many more such mini events to celebrate 5 years of WoW and 15 years of Blizzard. For all the moaning killjoys who see this as the end of some glorious WoW yesteryear GET SOME NUTS!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-45868692340098436702009-11-06T14:55:00.007+00:002009-11-06T19:14:18.735+00:00Store WarsOn Wednesday afternoon (GMT) whilst tentatively rediscovering World of Warcraft I was surprised to read on WoW.com

Blizzard launches real money in-game pet store

Curiously I read further and with an uncharacteristic girly squeal of delight I had within minutes bought the Pandaren (kung fu) Monk. It seems, however, in my rush of desire to possess this excellent companion I had misunderstood the whole situation.

I was informed in an avalanche of tweets and comments that this was not the game I love offering me new avenues of joy but rather some evil plot by a corrupt money hungry company to exploit it's vast ignorant user base.

I paused for thought and the thought that quickly emerged was BOLLOCKS!

As with many recent 'controversies' regarding WoW a section of the community seem shocked when Blizzard acts like a business. How dare they try and make more money they cry don't they have enough! This just seems odd to me. Don't get me wrong I love getting free stuff however I am also smart enough to know this is not how things work.

The way I see it is if Blizzard wants to sell vanity items that do not effect the core game play then so be it. This caters to the players who perhaps do not always have the time to earn such items in game or those players cursed by RNGitis.

There is the argument that this is the top of a slippery slope. To be honest if Blizzard do ever sell game changing items for real money then that would be a whole different matter but the fact is that would be a bad business decision and the pet store was not.

Your comments and opinions as always are welcome meanwhile look at my kick arse panda below.

(A special thanks goes to @alachia for pointing out that a blog is not just for Christmas and also for giving her Pandaren to someone else and not keeping it for herself.)

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-37956430485698271912009-08-03T18:59:00.003+01:002009-08-03T20:24:59.092+01:00Life and how to live itLife they say is a funny old thing and I agree 100%.

I am writing this somewhat tardy post from the male surgical ward of a large mainland hospital. I have just had something green and white for dinner followed by something yellow for pudding. It all tasted pretty much the same. I am now waiting for something brown to drink which someone has laughingly named 'tea' evidently having never experienced the actual thing.

I, of course, should be home in Jeppy Manor multi boxing mages but it seems that the powers that be felt I was having way too good a time and decided to put a stop to that.

It is often said that you only miss what you have when it is gone. I found this particularly true of the ability to breathe.

The journey from a shortness of breath (something quite common with my heart condition) and me dropping to the floor like a tranquilised rhino was a relatively short one. Though for much nerd cred I did manage to bang out a couple of twitters and an email before the paramedics arrived. I am also told (my own recollection being somewhat fuzzy at this point) that whilst being manhandled into the back of the ambulance I gave wheezing instructions to my son regarding the care and feeding of my many alts.

I awoke 3 days later.

It seems that my lungs had got jealous of all the attention my heart has been getting lately and decided to play silly buggers. I was initially told both lungs had collapsed but it later turned out they had in fact flooded. I am sure many Latin words could more accurately describe the event but I have chosen to call it 'fucked up lungs'

The fact that I am now sat up writing this and not pushing up tulips is mainly a testament to the fine work of medical science and those dedicated to it. It is also partly due to me knowing this particular boss fight pretty well.

It is no exaggeration to say I have faced death on 4 occasions in as many years (if I make it to 5 there is talk of me winning a toaster oven). After each 'event' I take some time to reevaluate, count my blessings, and move on. What else should I do? Live my life in a bubble nervous at every change in temperature? or make the most of the life I have? No prizes for guessing which one I choose every time.

So where does this leave 62*80. Well it leaves it exactly where it has always been a goal I will continue to strive toward. Will I hit it by Christmas? Probably not but as they say life's a funny old thing.

Bye for now.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-80429181538868094542009-06-16T17:06:00.002+01:002009-06-16T18:47:05.979+01:00Woah Horsey!
Just when I thought it was safe to go back in the forums Blizz chucks in a hand grenade...

I generally avoid patch notes, nerfs and buffs etc. Although in time all these things will effect my toons whilst levelling en mass they have little or no effect. This weeks announcement by Blizzard regarding mounts, however, had me using the expression normally reserved for road accidents or Oprah. I am sure the following is not news to anyone but it is worth a reprint.

Apprentice Riding (Skill 75)

60% land mount speed

Requires level 20

Cost: 4 gold

Mount cost: 1 gold

Mail will be sent to players at level 20 guiding the60m to the riding trainer

Journeyman Riding (Skill 150)

100% land mount speed650

Requires level 40

Cost: 50 gold

Mount cost: 10 gold

Mail will be sent to players at level 40 guiding them back to the riding trainer

Expert Riding (Skill 225)

150% flying mount speed; 60% land mount speed

Requires level 60

Cost: 600 gold (faction discounts now apply)

Mount Cost: 50 gold

Can now be learned in Honor Hold (Alliance) or Thrallmar (Horde)

Artisan Riding (Skill 300)

280% flying mount speed; 100% land mount speed

Requires level 70

Cost: 5,000 gold (faction discounts now apply)

Mount Cost: 100 gold

So why dear reader should I give a flaming gnome for the above changes well it slaps the crap out of my scheduling and approach.

As I mentioned in a previous post I have a few days left of RAF between my 4th and 5th accounts. I have therefore been busily getting as many Horde pairs on Jubei'thos up to 31.99 (so that future chains they recruit can ding them to 60.99) as possible. My plan was then to take a break from RAF and push the level 60 Alliance teams and all DK teams though Outland and onto 80. This doesn't now appear to be the best course of action.

The question is should I begin another RAF and fill in all the remaining 60 slots and then once complete fly my way around Outland at 150% speed? Or suck it up and push teams through as things stand currently. I would love to say my mind is fully made up one way or another. I know I would love to have some 80 teams sooner rather than later but damn I love to fly!

Still while RAF is running the old world ding fest continues.

The good news for me is that everything will get a whole lot cheaper come 3.2.

Current maths for riding skills and mounts is

2790G for 60% mount 43400G for 100% 55800G for first flyer and a staggering 322400G for epic flight and 62000G for cold weather flying. Ouch this makes an eye watering total of 486390 Gold! This of course takes no account of free mounts for Warlocks and Paladins or any current discounts but still - ouch!

3.2 changes this to the still gut wrenching total of 422530 (but with even more faction discounts) and since 150% flight speed will be more than enough for every team but my main farmers the price drops to 106330. Still a chunk of change but far less likely to wake me up screaming in panic.

Regardless of all this I am stoked for the day that I can muster a 10 man flying squad to guard the roads of Outland and Northrend from opposing faction gankers and to scare the bejeebus out of unsuspecting travellers.

Your thoughts as always are most welcome.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-86114259131004321402009-06-16T11:41:00.002+01:002009-06-16T19:48:27.407+01:00Status Update
OK so this is not exactly hot of the press but once again I blame all that damn leveling and only having a rolling restart last Tuesday!

I had the great pleasure of once again appearing on Ctrl Alt WoW episode 118 and this time not just with the sublime Aprillian and the hunk Ashayo but the highly entertaining Glanthur (follow them all on Twitter). As always I enjoyed myself a whole heap and even managed to squeeze in a status update. I urge you to not just listen to this episode but also plan a spot for it in your listening schedule.

Another podcast that continues to tickle me in places others can't reach is Bind on Equip. I have to say I sometimes have to pause to recover from choking fits caused by too much laughter. A recent episode (28) had their Rock the Horde team amongst the gankage Although not recommended for those unappreciative of pure Anglo Saxon it is podcast gold. If you aren't listening to this week in and week out then words fail me.

I give particular mention to the BoE podcast because it is too their Horde PvP realm that my focus has been recently directed. Jubei'Thos is an Oceanic realm and the BoE Horde guild is called, I think appropriately Pants on Head. They are slowly but surely building up a fun guild of mainly DKs and if you are looking for a place to hang this is it. To join up /join BoE and ask for an invite you won't regret it.

I have been busily adding to the numbers of toons on their server the past few weeks and dinging away like a mad man.

This brings me to another decision my project toons will be mainly grouped on Jubei'Thos (Horde PvP) and Boulderfist (Alliance PvP). It was brought to my attention some weeks ago that I would be committing WoW financial suicide if I spread my toons too thinly across six realms. I will however still have a presence on the other servers planned just not an even split.

As you can also see these main servers are PvP and although this may add to the leveling woes payback will be a bitch for those who make my KoS list. 5 shamans can be quite destructive!

As always it goes without saying if Rawrcast isn't part of your weekly dose of podcast goodness you may need psychological help and if a WoWcast pops up you better grab that sucker too.

Some recent feedback has asked for more in depth breakdowns of the toons I am leveling. What I plan to do is, as they hit 60, add them to www.wow.com and also www.3darmory.com. In all honesty the climb from 1-60 is not where the action is but 60-80 should be more enjoyable to follow (I hope). When I start to get things set up I will let you all know.

Finally I have a question for you all. Although this project doesn't give me heaps of time to blog I am really enjoying it. I was therefore wondering if you would be up for me blogging more general WoW things and not just project stuff?

For example I had the great pleasure to be on WoWCast episode 44 with Alachia and had the further pleasure of interviewing Starman from the venerable WarCast and this is the kind of stuff I would like to blog about (go take a listen).

Anyhow that's more than enough from me for now. Bye till next time.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-4576751332521161552009-06-09T22:21:00.002+01:002009-06-09T22:38:24.439+01:00To Gank or not to Gank?
The past few weeks as I have feverishly tried to squeeze every level out of RAF I have been in the upper levels (40-60) on my Alliance PvP server Boulderfist. It seems however that somewhere along the line I installed the 'Gank Me Hard' mod. This addon appears to put a huge neon sign above my team which attracts (in this case) angry Horde from miles around!

Now I know I am on a PvP server and should expect to be fighting the opposite faction from time to time but this was turning into a gank buffet with my teams as the all you can kill. I swear at one point people were taking turns to slap the shit out of me. Well I guess all is fair in love and war.

What surprised me most, however, was not that it happened but the way it changed my attitude. I am pretty much a passive guy and had kind of set myself a line as to when I would attack the opposition and when I wouldn't. I did what I considered fair. This changed in the last few weeks! I have become what I just complained about above. When I see opposition I can kill I kill it pure and simple. Does this make me feel good. Well yes and no but to be honest more yes!

Will this be my last post complaining about being ganked - hell no! I can QQ like the best of 'em.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-85574210342525516562009-05-29T10:48:00.003+01:002009-05-29T11:05:49.931+01:00Never fear....
I is here. (name the movie for geek cred)

OK so where are we or more specifically where am I? In a nut shell 'leveling' would pretty much sum it up :)

As mentioned before I set up several 'test' accounts before commiting to the US realm move. This was mainly to test latency etc but even more importantly to hook up with some of the excellent people from the WoWCast channel on BINDpoint. As you can tell given 62*80 the tests went fine and the people on BINDpoint are still excellent,

I ended up with 5 linked accounts and as I added them slowly to the chain this means over the past few days and for a few days more RAF has been expiring at various link points. Now I'm the sort of bloke who hates to waste anything and when a deadline is thrown into the mix out comes the cape and outside underpants. My usual 8 hours a day playtime has jumped closer to 16 as I try to squeeze every level out of RAFs dieing embers.

Some of the multitude of 60s created will go on to join 62*80 but others will not it is a harsh world this world of warcraft.

When things settle down I will of course be back with more posts and who knows some of them may be worth reading.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-16921691220551600102009-05-19T20:18:00.003+01:002009-05-19T21:41:47.559+01:00It's all about you (and you)I have found over the past few weeks that reactions to this project vary greatly.

They range from seeming hatred of me and the whole thing to total support for all I do. Unsurprisingly I like the latter way more then the former but the former certainly gave me pause for thought.

On the surface this project could easily be seen as a desperate attempt to get my head above the parapet and be a unique little snowflake in the meta sky. In all honesty that is certainly part of it (you didn't expect me to deny that did you?). However it is definitely not the only reason and far from the main one.

Desire

I partly see this project as satisfying my desire for goals and structure to the game I would play for 8 plus hours a day regardless of the 62*80. It therefore goes without saying I love playing WoW (pretty lucky considering) but it is as much about the community surrounding WoW as it is the game itself which keeps me playing.

Community

I honestly don't think WoW would be as popular if it hadn't encouraged and facilitated people getting together for the experience (Recent MMOs have failed to understand this and have made forming community harder not easier). This community is also quite unique in that it continues outside the game in various vibrant forms. These include the multitude of podcasts, blogs and forums.

Fishing for friends?

I therefore also see this project as a huge old net. I guess that requires some explanation!

Many of the people I have met through the game I have clicked with. Initially we share a common WoW language which makes conversation easier but even as I delve deeper I often find there are deeper roots of connection.

WoW is therefore very much the portal to like minded people for me.

What tends to happen is that the 'conversation' will then continue by other means. At the heart of this for me is the excellent BINDpoint and specifically the WoWCast channel. I pretty much consider this my virtual home (as proof of this recent downtime of the service had me roaming the meta streets like a lost soul). If this project can 'catch' more like minded people for me to interact with then it's working as intended.

So grab the lure. Of course if you say bad things about biscuits or tick the fucktard box you may get thrown back in the meta river!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-84435728648360405892009-05-19T11:13:00.001+01:002009-05-19T20:17:48.884+01:00No apology
I won't apologise for not updating recently cos as you can imagine I've been doing a wee bit of leveling :-)

As mentioned before the early stages of 62*80 are all about building foundations on the 6 chosen servers. In the main this means creating a whole ton of 60s and getting the whole gold making process moving. During this stage I am jumping about like a gnome on a hot plate.

In the past (on the EU realms) this was all very unstructured and resulted in toonmegeddon. This is one of the many reasons I am now playing on the US realms (that and the free cup cakes promised by @Alachia) Fortunately 62*80 has brought order and calm to the fun.

I have to say thanks to all those following the blog and the kind words of encouragement you guys have given me. Also I need your help (see you knew there was a catch). I would love to hear what you want to see on this blog as far as project updates. Naturally I am happy to blah blah blah but I am torn about how to show progress. So suggestions are very much appreciated.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6385723782548085265.post-79131190182680569292009-05-15T19:59:00.005+01:002009-05-15T20:25:25.260+01:00Some Answers...
I just realised that some folks had been kind enough to leave comments on some of my posts. Thanks! Here are some answers....

I am medically retired and therefore do not work. Prior to that my life was spent at sea.

My medical condition restricts my movement considerably.

Although retired I am in my early 40s (meaning of life this year).

I am married with 3 children Boy @ 13 and 2 girls at @6 and @10

My family is the centre of my life and I see them way more than I ever did as a working man.

My sleep pattern is madder than a box of badgers.

My WoW PCs are 3 x Zoostorm Core 2 Quad Q9450.

My main monitors are 3 x Dell 2408WFP.

My e-peen is now well polished.

I am playing on the US servers as my unstructured approach to levelling on the EU has left a huge mess (131 level 60s) and I am scared to look!

My Twitter and FriendFeed accounts are ElJeppy. I love genuine followers!

While I level I am 'talking' in the WoWCast channel on BINDpoint (sign up now!)

I listen to Mozart, podcasts and The Modern Scholar (audio education ftw)

and finally... No I could not be Stephen Hawking if I played less WoW and focused on physics!

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09470035118991569418noreply@blogger.com8
